Merit Award

Since 1952, the Bethany College Alumni Council has presented annually the Alumni Award of Merit to graduates of more than 20 years who have exemplified distinguished service in their professional lives while maintaining an interest in Bethany College. Recipients are nominated by former classmates or friends and selections are made by a vote of the Alumni Council.

Selection Criteria:

  1. A record of noteworthy achievement and service to humanity in public or church life, OR
  2.  A contribution of creativity in the Arts and/or Sciences, OR
  3. The head of a recognized organization or outstanding leadership and participation in the same, AND
  4. A continuing interest in his or her Alma Mater.

The nomination deadline for the Alumni Award of Merit is June 30th. The honor will be awarded at the Alumni Recognition Event to be held during Homecoming weekend.

You can nominate one of two ways: Online or by printed copy. The printed nomination forms will be accepted in the Bethany College Alumni Office, 335 East Swensson Street, Lindsborg, KS 67456-1897, or you can scan and email them to alumni@bethanylb.edu. Distinguished Graduate Award

The Bethany College Distinguished Graduate Award was established In order to recognize outstanding achievement and service to society by a graduate, the Alumni Association of this institution may bestow to one recipient annually the Distinguished Graduate Award. Award selections are made by the Alumni Council. 


Selection Criteria: 

The Bethany College Alumni Council will consider the following areas of achievement in the selection of the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient:


  • A record of noteworthy achievement and service to humanity in public or church life, OR
  • A contribution of creativity in the Arts and/or Sciences, OR
  • The head of a recognized organization or outstanding leadership and participation in the same.


The nomination deadline for the Distinguished Graduate Award is June 30th. The honor will be awarded at the Alumni Recognition Event to be held during Homecoming weekend.

Gold Award

Each year the Bethany College Alumni Council is pleased to present the Gold Award to graduates of the last two decades who have made outstanding contributions to society, and whose achievements to date demonstrate a person who shows promise, has high aspirations and has made a difference in the lives of people around them. The first presentation was made in 1992.


Selection Criteria:

  3. The head of a recognized organization or outstanding leadership and participation in the same, AND
  4. A continuing interest in Bethany College

Lifetime Achievement Award

The Bethany College Lifetime Achievement Award was established in order to recognize outstanding achievement and service to society by a graduate who has provided “unique and significant service” to the college over his/her lifetime, the Alumni Council of this institution may bestow the Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award annually to one recipient. Recipients are nominated by former classmates or friends and selections are made by the Alumni Council. 


Selection Criteria: 

The Bethany College Alumni Council will consider the following areas of achievement in the selection of the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient:


  • A record of noteworthy achievement and service to humanity in public or church life, OR
  • A contribution of creativity in the Arts and/or Sciences, OR
  • The head of a recognized organization or outstanding leadership and participation in the same, AND
  • Demonstrate a history of and/or continued commitment to furthering the mission of Bethany College.
  • Such as this is the highest honor a Bethany College graduate can receive, a lifetime record of “unique and significant service” to the college must be apparent.


The nomination deadline for the Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award is June 30th. The honor will be awarded at the Alumni Recognition Event to be held during Homecoming weekend.

Athletic Hall of Honor Award

The Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor Award gives recognition to individuals whose performance on the athletic field during their time at Bethany College was noteworthy and exemplary of the high standards for which Bethany College athletics historically have been known.

Selection Criteria: The Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor Committee will consider the following areas of achievement in the selection of the Athletic Hall of Honor:

  • The individual selected shall have been a former student-athlete and/or letter winner, a former coach, or an individual who was significantly involved in Bethany College athletics.
  • For student-athletes, the last year of participation in athletics at Bethany College shall have been at least 8 years before the election to the Hall of Honor.
  • Selection for membership in the Bethany College Athletic hall of Honor shall be determined by the quality and caliber of athletic performance and by the individual’s contribution to the team concept of athletic endeavor through leadership as cited by the coaches and teammates involved.


This award is given during Homecoming Weekend. The deadline for nominations is March 1 of each year. Nominations will be accepted in the

Coach of the Year Award

The Bethany College Alumni Coach of the Year Award was established in order to recognize the individual Bethany College former student or graduate who has directed and coached a secondary or collegiate varsity sports team or teams to a level of performance that is recognized as outstanding by those associated with that particular varsity sport. 

Selection Criteria: The Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor Committee will consider the following areas of achievement in the selection of the Alumni Coach of the year. 

  • The individual selected shall have been a former student or graduate of Bethany College.
  • The individual shall have coached a secondary or collegiate varsity sports team or teams to a level of performance, which is recognized as outstanding by those associated with that particular sport. 
  • It is the intent of this award to recognize the coach’s role in the successful athletic season.
